Logan's hospital stay

Monday we went to our family doctor, and she was concerned about Logan's yellow color. We had some tests done, and the doctor wanted us to bring Logan back to the hospital because his bilirubin levels were high (he had jaundice). As you can imagine, I fell apart. It was so sad, but after a few days, he's home and much better. I wasn't producing enough milk, he wasn't having enough BMs, and he wasn't getting rid of the bilirubin. So they bottle fed him, rehydrated him, and put him under some lamps. I had to stay in the hospital alone last night feeding him and such.

So now he's pink, a lot less fussy, and a lot less sleepy. I'm breastfeeding him, supplementing with formula, and pumping so I can get my milk supply up. I was so scared for my baby, even though I was assured it was pretty common for babies to get jaundice. It's amazing how quickly my whole life has become about him. You hear about it but don't really believe it til it happens to you. Matt's just as devoted, and it warms my heart. I'm just glad he doesn't have the meltdowns that I do.

Carol sent me the cutest Halloween baby socks for Logan today. I'll have to post a pic when he models them. Thanks, Carol!

Oh, poor you! That must've been so scary! My brother had the same issue and it scared my mom so badly that she still talks about it, nearly 35 years later! I'm so glad you're all home and doing well. Take care!!

Oh Michelle, you must have been so scared for poor little Logan! It is amazing how attached you get so fast! They definitely become your whole life once they are born. Glad to hear everything is going well now! Take care!!

I'm sorry to hear about Logan. That must have been frightening for you. As you've been told though, it is not unusual for babies to be jaundice.

Yes, I agree. Nobody understands that overwhelming love you feel for them until they've actually had a little one themselves. It's just the best feeling and I bet it's brought you to tears a few times when you think about him when he's in bed etc hasn't it.

(((hugs)))Michelle.

First, congratulations on your little Logan; I'm so happy for you and your husband.

Also, didn't anyone tell you that you only have about a week of "super sleepy newborn" before they turn into "awake at all hours newborn"? ;)

Both my little ones had jaundice--when I had my daughter (in Hawaii) they told me just to take her outside for about 20 minutes a day.

There are a lot of ups and downs with your first baby. They are a lot sturdier than you think; we mommies, on the other hand, tend to fall apart with every little thing. Welcome to the club :)

Glad to hear Logan is doing better. You're doing all the right things for him.

No one said being a Mommy would be easy. :-) We all have our meltdowns. I think it's a requirement......

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that Logan had to go to the hospital - and that you and Matt had to go through the stress and pain of that {{{HUGS}}} So glad he is feeling better!

You are welcome for the socks - I totally could not resist them, especially since his Mommy loves Halloween!!

Congrats on Logan! New babies are wonderful! Glad the jaundice is getting better, my son Jason had that, Jacob had the colic, those drops don't work very good if you ask me! I saw your goodies for Marie, great job! Hope everyone including baby have a great weekend!

Sorry to hear that Michelle, but I am glad he is okay. Just another stressor. I hope you can get your milk supply up.
